Juliene Buelos

‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ by Oscar Wilde

‘Animal Farm’ & ‘1984’ by George Orwell
On creating the George Orwell covers, Juliene mentioned “when I think of "Orwellian" these are the colours that come to mind: Rust Red, Black and Linen. A short backstory on how I picked these colours, I have observed that here in the Philippines, George Orwell's novels are becoming more popular because of the current state of the country. Every day in the news, protests & rallies happen. These three colours are often present in banners and placards. This palette sparks strong emotions and can be polarizing at the same time. The main inspo for 1984 is propaganda posters. The custom lettering was inspired by stencil typography from the early 1900s.

‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Brontë
For the books ‘Jane Eyre’ and ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ Juliene was inspired by antique Victorian Books. Using more vibrant and varied colours, she borrow elements from ornamental designs and pairs them with modern stylised lettering.

Mylène Dagnet

‘Let’s Bake A Cake’ by Mylène Dagnet
This original book is inspired by Mylène’s love for making and eating food. Whilst most of work features adults, she wanted to feature a younger person on the front and back cover to appeal to a wider audience and explore a topic that was both fun and educational.

Rajvi Bhogaita

‘Growing Pains’ by Andrea Parker & ‘Escape to the Tuscan Vineyard’ by Carrie Walker
‘Growing Pains’ is an original book inspired by the highs and lows of becoming an adult while staying in tune with your inner child. Carrie Walker’s ‘Escape to the Tuscan Vineyard’ focuses on friendship, romance, loss and more and in Rajvi’s re-imagining of the cover, she features the main character looking out onto the beautiful Italian vineyard.

Suleeko Abdi

‘The Secret of Mirror Bay’ by Carolyn Keene & ‘The Worst Witch’ by Jill Murphy
As a big fan of Nancy Drew and ‘The Worst Witch’ book series, Suleeko’s covers explore two classic books in fiction and fantasy with diverse characters. ‘The Secret of Mirror Bay’ features Nancy Drew and her two friends solving a mystery whilst ‘The Worst Witch’ features an alternative version of Mildred Hubble against a colourful and vibrant background.

Xtima

‘Queen Charlette’ by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes & ‘Naomi Osaka’ by Ben Rothenberg
Xtima is a mixed media artist known for his bold, edgy and often music related work, here he sought to showcase a softer and feminine side in his work. ‘Queen Charlette’ features a more classical approach combining different components relating to the 18th century, monarchy and romance. The more contemporary biopic book ‘Naomi Osaka’ features a mix of fashion, athleticism and strength.

Taka Yuki

‘Eight Mountain’ by Taka Yuki
Inspired by the book ‘The Eight Mountains’ by Paolo Cognetti, Taka takes a minimalist, and textured approach and focuses on the ninth and tallest mountain, Mount Meru as the covers centrepiece.
